Drexler Design

The Leon Drexler Portfolio is a permanent collection of available hats designed by Stephen Temkin. The collection does not seek to provide all things for all people, but rather serves to reflect the Leon Drexler style sensibility. The portfolio grows in a nonspecific way as the ongoing process of creating new hats results in new models that offer a distinctive contribution to the collection. And of course, the portfolio also serves as a reference, examples of various style elements that can be combined in different ways to produce a multitude of individual hats.

Every model begins on a specific block (learn more) and is then defined by the dimensions, styling and relative proportions of its crown, brim, ribbon and bow. However, the colour of the felt and the ribbon are not necessarily design specific. Most models can therefore be made in any available felt and ribbon colour combination. Some hats, such as the Handicapper, also accommodate some leeway regarding ribbon width, thereby allowing some variation in the character of the finished hat. (To learn more about ribbon, click here.)

Other possible variations on a portfolio model may include small adjustments to the width of the brim to retain the correct stylistic proportions for very small or large sizes, options concerning the finish of the felt (see both Venetian finish and Angora finish), and options concerning the weight of the felt (learn more).
